More than 600 attendees, iconic musical performance by Tony! Toni! Toné!, and special dignitaries celebrated 100 years of community empowerment

The Greater Baltimore Urban League (GBUL) has marked its centennial milestone with an unforgettable gala on Saturday, November 9, gathering over 600 supporters, dignitaries, and community advocates at the Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor. This celebratory evening honored GBUL’s legacy of advancing Baltimore’s Black communities and highlighted its vision for the future. Hosted by WBAL-TV’s Kai Reed and media personality Frank Ski, the gala delivered a night of inspiration, entertainment, and reflection on a century of impact.

“Celebrating 100 years reminds us of the power of resilience, unity, and relentless advocacy,” said GBUL Board Chairman Ricky Smith. “Our honorees and supporters reflect the profound impact we can achieve together, especially now, at a time when strengthening our communities and amplifying every voice matters more than ever. Tonight’s event renews our commitment to building a future where every dream has the opportunity to be realized.”

The event’s pinnacle moment featured a live performance by Tony! Toni! Toné!, who captivated attendees with their iconic hits, setting an electric tone for the evening’s celebration.

Distinguished honorees included Mayor Brandon Scott, Maryland State Senator Antonio Hayes, Delegate Scott Phillips, Media Mogul Cathy Hughes, BWI Airport CEO and GBUL Chairman Ricky Smith, and other influential leaders in business, media, and government. Honored guests such as Governor Wes Moore and First Lady Moore, Eddie and Sylvia Brown, and W. Drew Hawkins were acknowledged for their significant contributions to GBUL’s impact and the broader community.

The gala’s proceeds will benefit GBUL’s programmatic work, including workforce development, youth mentorship, and economic empowerment initiatives. For more on GBUL’s century-long mission and upcoming initiatives, visit gbul.org or follow @gbul on social media.
