Greater Baltimore
Urban League Guild

The Greater Baltimore Urban League Guild stands as the heartbeat of volunteerism within the Greater Baltimore Urban League, championing the mission to extend public understanding and bolster support for the National Urban League and its transformative programs. As an essential volunteer auxiliary, Guild members are pivotal in promoting voter registration and rights, embodying the spirit of civic engagement and empowerment. Through dedicated service and passionate advocacy, the Guild serves as a bridge between the Urban League’s mission and the Baltimore community and greater Maryland, mobilizing volunteers to address critical issues affecting education, employment, economic development, and social justice. Our members represent diverse backgrounds, professional expertise, and lived experiences, united by a shared commitment to creating meaningful change and opportunity throughout the Greater Baltimore region and across Maryland.

The Guild’s impact extends far beyond traditional volunteerism we are community organizers, advocates, educators, and change agents working collaboratively to advance the Urban League’s vision of economic self-reliance, parity, power, and civil rights for underserved communities. From hosting educational workshops and financial literacy programs to coordinating voter registration drives and civic engagement initiatives, Guild members actively contribute their time, talent, and resources to programs that transform lives and strengthen neighborhoods. We partner with local organizations, businesses, and community leaders throughout Baltimore and greater Maryland to create pathways for economic mobility, expand access to quality education and employment opportunities, and ensure every voice is heard in the democratic process. Whether through mentorship, community service projects, fundraising events, or advocacy campaigns, the Greater Baltimore Urban League Guild remains steadfast in our commitment to building a more equitable, inclusive, and prosperous Baltimore and Maryland for all residents.

Our Goal

Founded in New York City in 1942 by the visionary Mrs. Mollie Moon, the Urban League Guild was born out of a belief that lasting change requires more than policy it requires people. Mrs. Moon set forth with a bold and enduring mission: “to enhance and improve relations with the community and general public; develop and implement community programs and fundraising activities on behalf of the Urban League affiliate.” More than eight decades later, those words remain a living call to action, carried forward by Guild members across the country who give their time, talents, and hearts to uplift those around them. From voter registration drives to fundraising events, mentorship programs to community advocacy, the Guild has grown into a powerful national network spanning over 85 chapters  with Guilders ranging in age from 40 to 95 united by a shared commitment to service and a belief that every community deserves to thrive.

Right here in the heart of Maryland, the Greater Baltimore Urban League Guild carries that founding spirit forward with pride, purpose, and passion. As the heartbeat of volunteerism within the Greater Baltimore Urban League, the GBUL Guild champions the mission to extend public understanding and bolster support for the Urban League’s transformative programs rooted in a local legacy that stretches back to 1924, when the Greater Baltimore Urban League was first chartered. Today, GBUL Guild members serve as an essential force in the civic life of Baltimore and the greater Maryland region, showing up for their neighbors through community outreach, voter empowerment, and hands-on service that turns the League’s mission into lived reality. Whether mentoring youth, supporting fundraising efforts, or advocating for equity and civil rights, every Guilder is proof that real, lasting change is built one community at a time.
